My birthday romp at Hedon House

This is not a paid or in-kind review. I just had a very good birthday and want to tell you why.

My wife booked inner Sydney kink haven Hedon House to spoil me for my birthday weekend. Given WAQK members get 10% off bookings, it felt rude not to share a few thoughts for anyone who has been curious about what actually goes on inside this magical BDSMbnb.

First up, a quick word on price. Hedon House offers both hourly bookings and overnight stays. It is something of a luxury treat and will not be financially accessible to everyone. But if you’re comparing like for like, it’s not wildly different to an inner city hotel and cheaper than single rooms I have hired in professional dungeons. And that’s before you count the mountain of extra stuff that comes with it.

Because let me tell you, this place is stacked. It has literally everything you could ever want from a perverted play space, yet it feels warm and lived in at the same time. Like someone spent years turning their home into a kink paradise. A labour of love built by many hands in the community, filled with gear from useful to fascinating and everything in between.

There are multiple play spaces and even the most domestic areas are adaptable for inventive purposes. You can drift from sweet to spicy to downright wild without missing a beat. And the practical stuff is exactly where you need it to be. Towels, splash blankets, lube and all the helpful extras are tucked into clever little stashes so you never have to pause a scene to rummage through cupboards like a confused raccoon.

The Hedon House website has all the technical details and plenty of photos here, so you can peruse it at your leisure. But here are a few of my personal highlights.

Room to move

We had a very special guest join us for a play date and it never felt crowded. Except for the girl locked in the cage. But honestly, even that set up was spacious and comfy with its soft padded base. Don’t tell my Doms though. I put on a wonderfully petulant performance about being locked in there and I would like to maintain the illusion.

Neurodivergent lighting

Overhead lights are my personal nemesis, so I was overjoyed to realise I did not have to turn one on all weekend. Lamps everywhere. Fairy lights wrapped around the four poster bed. Subtle lighting in display cabinets. Little night lights in the kitchen and bathrooms. It was heaven.

Glorious memorabilia

I love snooping at the best of times and Hedon House absolutely encourages it. While my wife worked through a stack of Wicked Women mags, exclaiming in delight every few minutes, I explored every corner. My favourite discoveries were a set of very old, very soft buttery leather cuffs that felt like a dream and a tribute to my friend John Michael O’Brien featuring a pressed metal portrait hanging over the fireplace and the program from his memorial tucked into his favourite cap. We spoke about him often throughout our stay.

Personal care

From the Butler’s birthday message on the whiteboard through to the quick replies when we texted a question, we felt completely looked after. The guest guide is hilarious and very thorough, which added to the caring vibe.

Simple checkout

Leaving respectfully is easy. The guide explains exactly where to put anything you have used so the Butler can get on with whipping the place back into shape. No laborious chores or weird expectations, just a clear and friendly process.

We loved our stay and will absolutely be back.

Pro tip for anyone booking for the first time: do a two hour reccy before you commit to an overnight. That’s what we did and it was the perfect way to get the lay of the land and figure out if there is anything you want to bring from home. In my case that was a power board and an extension cord because I like my devices exactly where I like them.

Happy exploring, babes.
