Nik on stepping back and moving forward

Dear WAQK family,

After some reflection, I’ve made the decision to step down as Chairperson of WAQK. Francesca has been elected by the Board to take on the role, and I know she’ll bring incredible energy to it. This decision was made with the full support of our Board, and after a great deal of reflection on what’s best for both myself and the organisation moving forward.

As many of you know, I have always given my heart to this community, to building inclusive, respectful, and empowering spaces where we can connect, learn, and play. In recent months, I have recognised the need to take a step back from the demands of the Chair role and prioritise my physical and mental health.

That said, I am not going anywhere. I will be remaining on the Board in another capacity, continuing to support the team and the community I care so deeply about.

WAQK has grown into something truly special, a space built on trust, consent, and connection. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed along the way.

Francesca is stepping into the Chair role with strength, compassion, and a clear vision for the future. Alongside the rest of the Board, I have every confidence that she will continue to lead WAQK with integrity and heart.

Leadership, to me, has always meant service. Sometimes that service looks like guiding from the front, and sometimes it means stepping aside so others can lead the way. I do so now with full trust in Francesca and the Board, and with immense gratitude to all of you for the continued support, passion, and respect that make WAQK what it is.

With love, respect, and gratitude,

Nik Diesel Jayden - Founder & Former Chairperson, WAQK
